da21 is an independent charity.
We work cooperatively with local people, communities, businesses, educational bodies, local government and other organisations to encourage sustainable living in Dorset.

(Charity Number : 1102528, Company Number: 4988176).

We currently have 8 trustees on our board and 4 members of Staff .

Our objectives are:

(1) To promote sustainable development and the prudent use of natural resources;

(2) To advance education and research about sustainable development and the protection of the environment

We do this by:

(1) Raising public awareness and understanding about sustainability

(2) Support or initiate projects which demonstrate sustainability

(3) Influence decision makers to take sustainability into account throughout their decision making

We use the Brundtland definition of sustainable development : "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs"

Our latest project is supported by the Big Lottery Fund - titled BASIS. Its aim is to support both community based action on the environment, as well as support those groups who wish to do more in this area. For more information download a short presentation, or contact us.

da21 works with a number of partners including significantly the 3rd Sector Infrastructure Group for Dorset. Dorset's Third sector infrastructure Consortium (3SIG) is a partnership between 3rd sector organisations that provide a range of general and specialist advice and services to frontline voluntary organisations and community groups in Dorset. This includes help and advice on developing new organisations, funding, recruiting Volunteers, training, developing good practice, representation, liaison, policy response and campaigning.
