Dorset AONB Sustainable Development Fund - added 18.08.09

Funding available for outstanding projects!

If you're keen to make a difference and take forward a project that will enhance the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty we'd love to hear from you.

The Dorset AONB Sustainable Development Fund is once again open for applications, with £20,000 left to support local sustainable projects. The deadline for applications is 15th September 2009 . Your project, or a discreet phase of work, must be completed by 31st March 2010.

The Fund supports projects that:

Conserve and enhance the natural beauty and heritage of the area

Support communities in the area in ways that support the environment

Have the support of local people and / or meet a local need

Help deliver the AONB management plan.

Over the last four years, the Sustainable Development Fund has given grants totalling almost £300,000 to 68 local projects. These have included everything from local allotments, orchards and nature areas to outdoor activity centres, sustainable community buildings and even the conversion of a watermill to generate electricity.

The AONB Partnership works closely alongside Chalk & Cheese which has secured £3.1 million for local initiatives in Dorset and projects can be jointly funded by both schemes. Members of the Chalk & Cheese Local Action Group will help allocate the AONB fund, ensuring that local people have a direct say in the process.

This is a great chance to turn ideas into action and do your bit for your local environment and community. All details of how to apply plus examples of projects previously funded can be found on the AONB web site at www.dorsetaonb.org.uk or call Katharine Wright on 01305 228239 / or email k.wright@dorsetcc.gov.uk for advice.
