Welcome
to DA21 -
formerly Dorset Agenda 21.
DA21 is an
independent charity.
We work cooperatively with local people, communities, businesses, educational
bodies,
local government and other organisations to encourage sustainable living
in Dorset.
With your help DA21 can continue to create a more sustainable
Dorset in 2008
DA21 is active on behalf of all of us in Dorset who acknowledge
the impact of climate change and want to do something about it NOW. Climate
change is deservedly headline news on TV and in the press, discussed in
Government and by world leaders but it is at a local level and through
individual actions that a ripple effect is created that will shape the
future. Together we can make a difference!
In 2007 DA21 has:
• Run public workshops on solar power, climate change and eco-friendly
gifts
• Formed, launched and obtained grants for a
Dorset Climate Change Coalition, whichis backed by 10 county-wide
organisations.
• Supported 12 local groups dealing with
sustainable living issues day-to-day, including Turn Lyme Green who have
‘banned the bag’ in Lyme Regis, and the Weymouth DA21 group
who have set up an Energy Efficiency Centre in Weymouth library.
• Our newsletter entirely compiled
with voluntary labour reached over 1000 people and was published 3 times.
• Formed a network of Dorset sustainability
organisations to elect people who will speak up for sustainability
at community partnership meetings, which deal with planning the future
of our towns, districts and county.
• Arranged visits to two recycling plants, a sustainable building
fair and a development area with eco-homes, put on sustainable living
displays in Weymouth, Dorchester, Cattistock, Lyme Regis, Portesham, Blandford
and Wimborne, and given talks on climate change throughout Dorset.
During 2008, we are specifically developing four exciting new projects
to extend our support for volunteer local climate change groups and it
is to deliver both these projects and organisational development that
we are currently seeking funds.
DA21 currently receives no statutory funding and relies entirely on discretionary
grants and the generosity of our donors and supporters.
Currently it costs just £150 per day to run the charity and deliver
services. We aim to keep our running costs to a minimum and as such every
£1 donated to us is effectively invested in making a difference.
If you would like to support our vital work by making a donation it’s
easy, either click the link above to donate on line, or send us a cheque.
Please only give what you can afford.
