Some of the ways we support climate-friendly and sustainable communities in Dorset are; • Run public workshops on solar power, climate change and eco-friendly gifts • Formed, launched and obtained grants for a Dorset Climate Change Coalition, whichis backed by 10 county-wide organisations. • Supported 12 local groups dealing with sustainable living issues day-to-day, including Turn Lyme Green who have ‘banned the bag’ in Lyme Regis, and the Weymouth DA21 group who have set up an Energy Efficiency Centre in Weymouth library. • Our newsletter entirely compiled with voluntary labour reached over 1000 people and was published 3 times. • Formed a network of Dorset sustainability organisations to elect people who will speak up for sustainability at community partnership meetings, which deal with planning the future of our towns, districts and county. • Arranged visits to two recycling plants, a sustainable building fair and a development area with eco-homes, put on sustainable living displays in Weymouth, Dorchester, Cattistock, Lyme Regis, Portesham, Blandford and Wimborne, and given talks on climate change throughout Dorset. During 2008, we are specifically
developing four exciting
new projects to extend our support for volunteer local climate change
groups and it is to deliver both these projects and organisational development
that we are currently seeking funds. PS Please make cheques payable to ‘Dorset Agenda 21’ and send to DA21, PO Box 5789, Dorchester DT2 8ZR, or donate using charity choice using the link below. |
