DSP - Environment Theme Group 15th May 2008
Report on Dorset Strategic Partnership Environmental Theme Group meeting
Thursday 15th May 2008 at Dorset Room, Colliton Club Dorchester
Items of interest to the Sustainability and Environment Forum
New Chairman - It was decided to offer the chair to Simon Cripps the new chief executive of the Dorset Wildlife Trust who was not present. It is hoped that the handover would happen at the next meeting. Discussion followed about the possibility of a vice-chair which could be offered to an elected member. This will be followed up at the next meeting.
ETG Action Plan – Peter Moore the link officer for the Theme Group presented a draft action plan to the meeting. It would focus the group's agenda more clearly around the long-term environmental objectives set out in the community strategy as well as the short-term objectives of the Local Area Agreement. The action plan lists the individual objectives along with the current status, lead responsibility, resources, targets, indicators, another policy statements and risks. Comments on the format are required by 30th May.
Bournemouth, Dorset & Poole MAA- A draft response to the initial document was circulated prior to the meeting with comments from Dee Stephens (Acting Chair). The key points highlighted the weakness of the document with regards to the environmental aspects being embedded in the strategy. Kate Hall commented on the lack of notice and preparation time for the process and that the final document would address this problem.
Bournemouth, Dorset & Poole Energy Efficiency Strategy – Kate Hall explained that a consultation event would be taking place on 22nd May and a final document to be produced by December.
Kate Hall also informed the group about a workshop on environmental limits being held in Exeter on 3rd July, organised by the Environment Agency. To reserve a place/further information, contact:
